About This Indication
Schizophrenia often first appears during adolescence. Research is critical to evaluating whether therapies already used in adults are safe and effective for younger populations.
The objective of these studies is to evaluate symptoms such as hearing or seeing things others do not, unusual thinking, or social withdrawal. Participation helps advance mental health options for the next generation.
Schizophrenia often first appears during the teenage years, and early signs are easy to mistake for a phase: hearing or seeing things others do not, unusual or fearful thinking, pulling away from family and friends, or a sudden drop in grades, sleep and motivation.
Programs generally involve several weeks of close clinical monitoring. Most studies are randomized and may include a placebo group to ensure the scientific validity of the findings.
Study Benefits

Important Eligibility Criteria
- 13 to 17 years of age
- Experiencing symptoms of schizophrenia such as hallucinations, delusions or disorganized thinking
- Parent or legal guardian able to accompany the teen to study visits
- Able to attend visits
Participation is completely voluntary. Families can choose to stop at any time without affecting their regular medical care.
